I am a practicing attorney in Spartanburg, South Carolina. I focus on representing Social Security disability claimants at all levels: prior to the initial claim, during the appeals process (both the reconsideration and hearing), and in further actions in federal court. I also handle Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) claims.
As a lawyer, I take my job as a legal representative and advocate seriously and conscientiously; in fact, I’ve been awarded an “AV” peer review rating by Martindale Hubbell for the highest level of professional skill and ethics. I am also a strong proponent of the legal profession: I am the former President and Executive Committeeman of the Spartanburg Bar Association and a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives. I am also a member and former board member of the South Carolina Association for Justice.
I am a proud graduate of Columbia College in Columbia, South Carolina, where I received my B.A. in Public Affairs, magna cum laude. While in college, I made the Dean’s List and President’s List for all four years and was a Harry S. Truman Scholarship Finalist for South Carolina. In college, I served as President of the Student Senate and Vice President of the Student Government Association. I was the Chief Justice in the South Carolina Student Legislature and won the Best Legislation Award. I also worked as a Fellow for the Washington Center for Women’s Development and for the Center for the Study of the Presidency in Washington, D.C.
I received my law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in Columbia, South Carolina. While in law school, I took an active role in school- and law-related activities: I served as the Chairperson for the Legislative Council and the Vice President of the Student Bar Association. I was also the President of the Women’s Law Association. On the national level, I became an active member of American Bar Association/Law Student Division (ABA/LSD) and the Outstanding Young Women of America.
Immediately following law school, I gained valuable legal and practical experience by clerking for the Honorable James B. Stephen, Circuit Judge of Spartanburg, South Carolina. I then worked as an associate for Bruce Foster, P.A., before embarking on my own solo practice as an attorney in 1992. In addition to my private practice, I have also served as a part-time City Prosecutor for the city of Spartanburg from 1995 to 2010.
